About
FIRST (For Inspiration and Recognition of Science and Technology) was founded in 1989 to inspire young people's interest and participation in science and technology. Based in Manchester, NH, the 501(c)(3) not-for-profit public charity designs accessible, innovative programs that motivate young people to pursue education and career opportunities in science, technology, engineering, and math, while building self-confidence, knowledge, and life skills.
FIRST is More Than Robots. FIRST participation is proven to encourage students to pursue education and careers in STEM-related fields, inspire them to become leaders and innovators, and enhance their 21st century work-life skills.
History
San Jose formed a robotics team during the 2015-2016 school year. Originally, it was composed of two teams. During the 2016-2017 school year, the team became one joint team of middle and high school team members. This was the year they were re-branded as the San Jose Storm Troopers.
At Our School
The Storm Troopers are more than a robotics team, we’re a family. We have an amazing mentor program where high schoolers train middle schoolers. We are a very thrifty team, while using bare-bone materials through the years. We strive to help other teams, with members talking to other teams and we are very excited.
To join our team, parents will need to sign a permission form and pay $25 club dues for the year, which includes the purchase of a club T-shirt. Also, students must maintain a 2.5 or better GPA, checked on progress reports and report cards. If below a 2.5, the student will have until the next progress report or report card to bring it up.If at any time a student has an F in a class, the student will be suspended from robotics until the teacher of that class advises that the student has brought the grade up.

History
Founded in 2011, Marathon High is a regional nonprofit program that challenges at-risk teens to train for a 13.1 mile half-marathon in order to develop positive futures. By training week after week for four months, this after-school program allows high school students to develop athletic skills, social skills, self-respect, self-esteem, courage, strength, confidence, healthy lifestyles and a positive direction.
Our Team
The San Jose family joined the program in the Fall of 2018. It is open to all high school students at San Jose as long as they are able to pass a physical exam because it is required to participate. We currently practice on Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Saturdays. The first practice starts in October and continues until March. Our current Head Coach is Mr. Bell.

About
The National Honor Society (NHS) is the nation’s premier organization established to recognize outstanding high school students. More than just an honor roll, NHS serves to recognize those students who have demonstrated excellence in the areas of scholarship, service, leadership, and character. These characteristics have been associated with membership in the organization since its beginning in 1921.
Today, it is estimated that more than one million students participate in NHS activities. NHS chapters are found in all 50 states, the District of Columbia, Puerto Rico, many U.S. territories, and Canada. Chapter membership not only recognizes students for their accomplishments, but challenges them to develop further through active involvement in school activities and community service.
History
The National Association of Secondary School Principals (NASSP) officially established NHS in 1921. Though many local and regional honor societies existed prior to 1921, no nationwide organization had been founded. Under the leadership of Dr. Edward Rynearson, principal of the Fifth Avenue High School in Pittsburgh, the organization grew from the original Alpha Chapter at the Fifth Avenue School to more than 1,000 chapters by 1930. Equipped with a constitution, an emblem and motto, and a group of dedicated principals as coordinators, the new NHS organization quickly developed into one of the country’s leading educational groups.
Four main purposes have guided chapters of NHS from the beginning: to create enthusiasm for scholarship; to stimulate a desire to render service; to promote leadership; and to develop character in the students of secondary schools. These purposes also translate into the criteria used for membership selection in each local chapter.

About
The National Junior Honor Society is the nation’s premier organization established to recognize outstanding middle level students. More than just an honor roll, NJHS serves to honor those students who have demonstrated excellence in the areas of scholarship, service, leadership, character, and citizenship. These characteristics have been associated with membership in the organization since its beginning in 1929.
Today, it is estimated that more than one million students participate in official Honor Society activities. NHS and NJHS chapters are found in all 50 states, the District of Columbia, Puerto Rico, many U.S. territories, and Canada. Chapter membership not only recognizes students for their accomplishments, but challenges them to develop further through active involvement in school activities and community service.
History
The National Association of Secondary School Principals (NASSP) officially established NJHS in 1929, eight years after it founded National Honor Society for high school students. Under the leadership of Dr. Edward Rynearson, principal of the Fifth Avenue High School in Pittsburgh, the organization grew from the original Alpha Chapter at the Fifth Avenue School to more than 1,000 chapters by 1930. Equipped with a constitution, an emblem and motto, and a group of dedicated principals as coordinators, the new NJHS organization quickly developed into one of the country’s leading educational groups.
Five main purposes have guided chapters of NJHS from the beginning: to create enthusiasm for scholarship; to stimulate a desire to render service; to promote leadership; to encourage responsible citizenship; and to develop character in the students of secondary schools. These purposes also translate into the criteria used for membership selection in each local chapter.
At OUR School
Our NJHS is more than just an honor roll, NJHS serves to honor those students who have demonstrated excellence in the areas of Scholarship, Leadership, Service, Citizenship and Character. Induction into the National Junior Honor Society is a prestigious distinction awarded only to the most deserving students. Few are nominated for induction, and even fewer are accepted.
Chapter membership not only recognizes students for their accomplishments, but also challenges them to develop further through active involvement in school activities and community service.
Nominated students interested in applying for acceptance into the San Jose Academy National Junior Honor Society completed an application listing their attributes and personal achievements. They also wrote an essay about why they think they deserve to me a part of the organization. These applications were meticulously reviewed for the qualities each National Junior Honor Society member must possess.
